As part of its efforts to provide service to the worldwide community, the College collaborates with international educational institutions to provide study abroad and internship opportunities. From January until early March 2015, our institution collaborated with Lulea University of Technology in Sweden to facilitate the research and internships of two of their soon to graduate nursing students.

Henrietta Stridsman Moeller and Victoria Bergqvist arrived on the island on January 3 to complete a research thesis entitled “ Nursing interventions that enhance the quality of life in palliative care.” As part of their project, the nursing students volunteered at the St. John Hospice, Antigua’s principal center for end-of-life care.  Their dedication to their duties there provided much needed help to the Hospice’s staff and patients.

The duo stated the warmth of the Antiguan public and their willingness to help, along with the accessibility of beaches (of course!), made their experience fruitful and worth repeating. They said that, based on their experiences here, their institution is interested in additional research/internship projects in different fields of study.
